Juan Carlos
So today, I was in the middle of a rather successful teaching flurry, when a former student (he graduated last year) (can we call him Juan Carlos even though that's not his name? Good.) walked into my room and just sort of stood there. I was in the middle of helping a current student so it was a few minutes til I got over to Juan Carlos.
First of all, I should say that my first interaction with him today was not him walking in. As I passed the door, I noticed a creepy shadow behind the shade that covers the windows on the door. I found this hilarious at the time and remarked upon it, loud enough for the shadow to hear. It went away and then two minutes later JC walked in so I'm sure it was him.
Secondly I should clarify that last year, when I had just started, JC did his personal best to make my life a living hell. I eventually convinced my supervisor (badass lady) to have a conference with the principal regarding his behavior in my class (he has a record 3 full pages, front and back, in the skull&bones book. Impressive.). She came back from that conference telling me how JC (who is about 260 pounds and quite tall, kicked off the football team though) was begging for his mother to understand ("Mami! Te lo juro! Mami please don't make me go to alternative school,") as if he were 3 years old. HA! We both had a good laugh, which sounds sadistic, but this kid had literally shoved me before in addition to a ton of other crap and he was dead to me.
So I was very surprised to see him, I mean, I know it's "cool" for college freshman to come back to high school and say what's up, but if he had asked if he could come in I would have said no. Anyway, he (loudly) said how "crazy" life after high school is, and how "you don't realize in high school that you're supposed to actually LEARN." I held back from saying, "No idiot, that was just you." He was trying to sound cool in front of all the freshmen in my class and I didn't want to ruin it for him.
In the end I congratulated him for making it into college (he is paying full tuition, but still, with a behavior and academic record like his... I was very, very surprised he got in) and told him I was proud of him.
I couldn't then, but I would like to now gloat about how righteous and compassionate I am for not spitting in his face. Haha but seriously... he was awful and I was quite nice.
That is all.
